Frequently asked Questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked general questions about our trips. If you have a question about a specific trip please review the details for that trip as that answer will likely be on those pages.

How many people come to these events?

Our first trip in 2024 had 33 people and every year it keeps growing. Our 2027 Pennsylvania trip will have about 150 attendees which is excited to see the fandom coming together to celebrate our mutual love for Nancy Drew!

Can I be added your your email list?

Yes! Please fill out the form on our CONTACT US page. We email updates periodically about the trips and attendees.

How big is the team that works on these trips?

There isn't a team, these trips are planned by a fellow fan, Hannah, and take her about 2 years to plan each one. Hannah's husband, Alex, plans an escape room for each trip and we have a few volunteers who help with setup/clean up during the events. The coloring pages are made by @colorable.art (Instagram) and the name tags are also made by volunteers. Other than that all the hours of research, choosing venues and vendors, booking places, processing registrations, replying to each of your emails, writing the itinerary, emailing updates, choosing and buying decorations, selecting snacks, buying supplies, managing the budget, managing the website, designing activities, hiring special guests, etc is all done by just Hannah in her spare time and take ~ 500 hours per trip. These are a labor of love for the Clue Crew.

Can you accommodate dietary needs?

On your registration form you can choose between a beef, chicken, vegetarian, or vegan entree for the closing dinner. If you have a severe allergy please contact us directly and we will do our best to accommodate.

What are these trips like?

These annual trips have multiple days with themed activities scheduled each day. The first day we always have a gathering to meet everyone and get to know each other. You'll check in when you arrive to pick up your name badge and goodie bag and you'll be assigned to a group for the rest of the event. There will be snacks, games, ice breaker activities, and a quiz related to the theme.

Over the rest of the trip we will have several activities that will relate to the game we are theming our trip after (example: horseback riding for the AZ trip or whale watching for the WA trip). We also have a closing cosplay dinner to wrap up the event and people are encouraged (but not required) to come dressed up as a Nancy Drew game character. There are also vendors with themed merch for sale at our closing dinner. Each trip is in a different location and has different activities so be sure to look at the lists of activities to see which trips sounds like the most fun to you! There is also free time built into the schedule to rest or explore the area if you want to!

I'm still on the fence. Is it worth it to come on these events?

We spend about two years planning each individual trip to ensure everyone has a wonderful time. Every event is planned in detail to have decorations and activities that match perfectly with the theme. We have lots of goodies and surprises instore on each trip and we hope you'll have the trip of a lifetime!

We have also had a very high percentage of repeat attendees which is awesome! While all the activities are fun in and of themselves what makes these trips special is that you are doing things with other people who also love Nancy Drew games and who understand the quotes, references, and easter eggs that will come up along the trip. We've heard from people that they made instant and lifelong friends!

What is the typical age range of people who attend?

The majority of attendees are between 25 and 40 years old. Anyone over 18 can attend and we have had people up to their 60s attend.

Are hotel accommodations included in the price?

No, if a hotel was included we would have to charge 3x or 4x the registration fee. We let everyone choose the best accommodation (hotel, house rental, campground, etc) that works best for their needs and budget.

Is transportation included? What about carpooling options?

No, you are responsible for coordinating your own transportation to the event and between activities during the event. Occasionally some transportation between activities is included in registration (please review registration page for the trip you are interested in carefully). The hosts do not coordinate carpooling but each trip has a private Discord that people can use to carpooling. Please note that wanting to carpool does not guarantee carpooling options. This is at your own risk please use best judgement.

Does each trip have the same registration price?

No, each trip has a unique registration price due to a variety of factors including location, number and type of activities, etc. So far our trip registration has been between $265-$465 USD (does not included lodging, transportation, or all meals). We try and announce costs several months before registration opens.

What is your refund policy?

The registration fee is due when you sign up and is not refundable in part or in full under any circumstances including if you are unable to attend entirely or are late for a specific event and so unable to participate (ie the whale watching tour has to leave without you if you are late). Registration is also non-transferable to anyone. If you opt out of certain activities for any reason we will not be able to reimburse you for the event you did not participate in. The only reason the hosts will refund the money is if the entire event has to be canceled due to circumstances outside our control.

Are children allowed? What about my nursing baby?

While our trips have a family-friendly atmosphere these events are created for and intended for adults only. No one under 18 is allowed with the exception of nursing infants. Parents of nursing infants will need to fill out an additional waiver policy for their child and need to inform us that they plan to bring the infant. Please contact us directly to read the waiver policy.

How many events have you already hosted?

We have hosted three events so far. Our trips have been to Arizona, New Jersey, and most recently Washington.

Can I opt out of individual activities on a trip if I prefer not to do them?

Yes, you can opt out of activities. Please note that we are unable to offer a reduced ticket fee or refund if you do not participate in any activity for any reason. If you know you do not wish to participate in a particular activity for an event you registered for please let us know right away.

When will more information be available for future trips?

Currently we have trips planned until 2028. Specific details for that trip will become available late 2026 or early 2027. Trips beyond 2028 are in the planning stage behind the scenes and when info is available it will be announced. To not miss any updates please sign up for our email list.

How long is registration open for each event?

Our first two trips we had registration over a period of several months. Our most recently trips have closed within a few hours to within a few days. Each trip has a limited number of spots available so registration periods will vary depending on interest for any particular trip.

How long are these trips?

Our trips are between 2 1/2 to 4 days long depending on location and number of activities. They are usually Thursday - Saturday but vary somewhat.

Can I sell my merch at the event?

Yes as long as it is connected in some way to the theme or Nancy Drew! During the cosplay dinner on the last day on the closing day of the events we have an opportunity for people to sell their merch. For more details and to sign up to be a vendor please read full details HERE.

Can individuals come or do I need to come with people I know?

You definitely can come by yourself and you'll make new friends really quickly! Our last trip we had 40+ people who were new. We have lots of individuals, couples, friend groups, and family groups as well. You'll find that having Nancy Drew in common you'll fit right in. :)

Do I have to be a Nancy Drew fan to attend?

These trips are designed for people who enjoy Nancy Drew games. Although we have had fans bring a friend or partner who hasn't played much Nancy Drew at all and they still enjoyed themselves. You don't have to be a big fan to attend but you'll definitely pick up on more "Easter egg" stuff if you have played all the games.

Why do you plan these trips?

Because I am a Nancy Drew fan too! I started playing the games as a kid and it is a dream come true to go places Nancy did while solving mysteries and especially getting to be there with other fans of the games! I'm not employed by anyone to make these trips but do it because I wanted this type of event to exist so I have put in years of effort to see it become a reality.
